Songs: My Unified Catalogue Of Transmedia Character Components

notes / gigs / releases

This is my unified catalogue of transmedia
Character components
I will try to describe how it works so then hopefully
You'll feel able to condone it
It's a way to analyse
How they are modified
As they move across media and time
It's a transmedia character catalogue
Of components that's unifed

There are thirteen components within it that come
From the works of multiple scholars
Which I categorised into four basic types
Which can be summarised as follows
Character-specific, Storyworld-specific,
Behavioural and Authorship
Which I will now explain
In a straightforward way
In the order above outlined

Character specific, as the name may suggest
Is to do with the character themselves
Such as the way they look
How they talk, how they act
And the names and/or titles they have held

Storyworld-specific is to do with the world
In which their stories are set
That's the places and things, characters that exist
And the history of previous events

Behaviour contains how they're described and their traits
And the reasons they do things for
While authorship's the entities
Who are credited
With the existence of it all

And that’s my unified catalogue of transmedia
Character components
I have tried to describe how it works so now hopefully
You'll feel able to condone it
It's a way to analyse
How they are modified
As they move across media and time
It's a transmedia character catalogue
Of components that's unifed

This was one of the earliest songs written for the show, around the same time as Batman But Done Better (I think Batman was written first, but could be wrong) and like that one it was a BREAKTHROUGH for realising how the whole thing was going to go.

I'd been struggling to think how I was going to explain all of this Quite Complicated STUFF to people, and eventually saw that I could use the COMPLICATEDNESS as the HOOK, really leaning into it like one of those Science Explainy songs e.g. that one about the Elements that rhymes Very Cleverly where it's an impressive feat of MEMORY for the person singing it.

The downside of that is that it really did take an impressive feat of memory for someone like ME, with a not very good MEMORY for this sort of thing, to actually MEMORISE, but now it's in there so I find it best just to plough on and try not to distract myself by thinking "COR! I just remembered that verse, now what is the next one ... OH NO!"
