Blog: Stourbridge

< previous next >
I was up with the LARK on Saturday Morning - the Leytonstone LARK that is, he doesn't get up THAT early but it's ENOUGH on a weekend - and onto the TUBE for Marylebone: NICEST of London Stations. I was PRAISING its virtues to members of my Family on Friday when The Skin On My Snare Drum said "You like it because it makes you feel like you're in the Beatles, don't you?" and AHA! I was FOUND OUT! Funnily enough, I saw Bloke Who Does Beatles Walking Tours waiting in the entrance as i HUNG AROUND waiting for 11 o'clock, when the JUST 15 Tickets started being vended - these are GRATE tickets you can get means you can go to Brum and back for 15 quid!! 15 QUID! That's a SENSIBLE PRICE FOR A RAIL TICKET - who'd've ever thought they'd see the like?

Obviously a lot of other people were impressed by it as the train was PACKED most of the way to Birmingham, but all went well and I EMERGED into Snow Hill, basically the MARYLEBONE to New Street's... well, there IS no station in London or, i would suggest, ANYWHERE that is as horrible as Birmingham New Street, suffice to say i was PLEASED that i was not going to be going there. Instead i RAN upstairs, got my ticket to Stourbridge then RAN back down and hopped about the shuttle that was just arriving.

I was met by Ray at the station and off we drove to his house, with a guided tour of Notable Black Country Sights on the way, of which there are MANY. We got to his house where he was having a Bit Of A Do - parties at Ray's house have been a bit of an Annual Tradition in my ROCKING CALENDAR, and it was lovely to see his FAMILY again and note that their dog Charley has CALMED DOWN and is now just Insistent rather than Shouty- there was MUCH throwing of balls!

We chatted, drank some Organic Beer and, as people arrived, SCOFFED the huge mountains of Vegan Style GRUB that Ray had prepared. It was DELICIOUS, and thus it was a rather STUFFED Hibbett who took to THE GARDEN to do the following:
  • Hell On Earth
  • The Peterborough All-Saints' Wide Game Team (Group B)
  • I Did A Gig In New York
  • Things'll Be Different (when I'm in charge)
  • Clubbing In The Week
  • Do The Indie Kid
  • The Lesson Of The Smiths
  • Easily Impressed
  • Hey Hey 16K
  • Boom Shake The Room

  • It was all very JOLLY, even tho i forgot some of the words to Hell On Earth (I've never played it live before) and everyone seemed to like it - except for Charlie The Dog, who objected slightly to the lack of balls now being thrown, i felt a bit guilty.

Anyway it was soon time to head back into TOWN, where a portion of us popped for a quick PINT in Birmingham City Centre before I said my goodbyes and hopped back on the train to Marylebone. A lovely day in The Midlands!
