The Last Working Day Of The Month: Issue 23

< issue 22 issue 24 >
(MJ Hibbett & The Validators FACT, December 22nd 2006 )

Hello all, and welcome to the TWENTY THIRD issue of our FESTIVE newsletter. Let's make it HAPPEN shall we?

GIGS TO COME

This month I shall be playing the following places:

Friday December 29 - The Union Tavern, London (GIG 50!)
Saturday January 6 - The Loft, Cambridge
Sunday January 27 - The Windmill, London (With Al Duvall at a Let's Go Baboon night)

GIG 50 is, as the name probably suggests, going to be my 50th gig of the year, so I wanted to make it a bit SPECIAL. To that end I've booked a room above a pub in Clerkenwell and I'm going to do a Totally Acoustic gig i.e. without a PA system. Entry will be free and I'll be there from 7pm with my first set at 8pm, followed by a guest appearance from Dr Neil Brown then my second set finishing by 10pm, so that people can either get home at a decent time OR drink some more beer. It should be a lot of fun - there may even be a RAFFLE - so if you're able to do so, please come along and help me celebrate my SEMI-TON of GIGS!

GIGS WE'VE DONE

There's been a SLEW of Christmas Gigs this month, all of which have been a LOT of fun. I had my first mince pie of the season at The Living Room in Cambridge, and DENIED Santa entry to the building. In Woodhouse Eaves we set up our own PA, danced all night, and I made myself poorly. I was better in time for a STORMING night with The Validators in Nottingham, followed by a quieter but DELIGHTFUL solo gig the next night in Leicester. Finally, Tim, Tom and I played with a SURPRISINGLY large number of GRATE bands at The Good Ship last week, ending our Year In Rock together on a high. Now I've just got GIG 50 to go before I can relax into a 2007 where i intend play MUCH less often - I'm KNACKERED!

RECORDS

"Hollow Smoke", the new compilation from Sorted Records featuring my song "The Story of My Life", is now available in shops, from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000K2UJOU) or from Sorted Records themselves (http://www.sorted-records.org.uk). It's REALLY good - best Sorted compilation EVER!

There's a couple of other tracks coming out soon too - "Sod It, Let's Get Pissed" should be out on a new compilation from Derby's Cowboy Democracy label, and my version of "Leaning On A Lamppost" should be on a new Tasty Fanzine compilation some time soon too. That second "Rest Of" album ("The Forest Moon Of Enderby") gets CLOSER every day!

OTHER THINGS

2006 has been a pretty amazing year for us - we've put out an album, had LOADS of really nice reviews, done a live session on Radio 1, made a video, played tons of ACE gigs and even been on a PROPER TOUR. It's been exhausting but it's been a whole HEAP of fun, so I'd just like to say thanks VERY much to everybody who's helped us along the way, whether it was by coming to see us play, buying a CD, reviewing us, playing our CDs on the radio, making our video (Rob!), putting on a gig, or just generally being KEEN. We've had a fab time and really appreciate all the people who've helped us - thank you!

And that's about your lot for this month and this YEAR. Thanks for listening, and have a lovely holiday!

Cheers,

Mark
